Reality TV show winner reveals motivation

MALINAO, Aklan – This town’s Jonathan Allen S. Yabut, winner of reality television show Apprentice Asia, was warmly welcomed by barangay, municipal officials and residents when he went home.

At a welcome program, Yabut revealed he was sick and tired of Filipinos being looked down in Southeast Asia, so he strived hard to prove that he was better than the rest of the Apprentice Asia contestants.

Mayor Ariel Igoy fetched Yabut from the Kalibo International Airport and led a caravan towards the poblacion.

The Malinao Covered Court was packed with people for a welcome program.

“When I looked at the barong and the Philippine flag pin, I did not think of myself but the whole nation, the reason I persevered to win,” Yabut said.

Apprentice Asia is an AXN Asia television reality show hosted by Air Asia boss Tony Fernandes.

Some 30,000 aspiring contestants auditioned on the launching of the show and 12 contestants were chosen as finalists.

The 28-year-old Yabut, a native of Brgy. Tambuan here and grand champion of the 7th Mansmith Young Market Master Awards, emerged as the show’s champion. He bested the last remaining contestant – Singaporean lawyer Andreah Loh.

Yabut will start as Fernandes’ apprentice at Air Asia on August 15.

Separate resolutions were sponsored by Tambuan Barangay Council, Malinao Sangguniang Bayan and Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan in recognition Yabut’s feat. He is the first Apprentice Asia winner.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)-Aklan Chapter also passed a resolution hailing Yabut, son of Allen Inac-Yabut and Carmen Thomar Iledan-Salazar. (By Ernan Baldomero)
